Sport Facilities

BCIT Recreation Services features a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, including a first-rate gymnasium that can accommodate eight badminton, and two basketball or three volleyball courts. BCIT is regularly used for badminton, martial arts, table tennis and other various indoor sports events. Three tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court, a sports field, a fitness trail, as well as a 396-metre track offer opportunities for outdoor recreation. Complete shower facilities, change and locker rooms are available.

A state-of-the-art facility, the Bill Copeland Sports Centre that has been hailed as a model for other community sport centres. Spacious, stylish and filled with natural light, it defies the usual image we have of a hockey arena – and that's because it's much more than an arena. Visitors are often struck by the executive-style appointments, the elegant interior design and the versatility of the building The exceptional acoustic, lighting and sound systems make it ideal for not only large sporting events but also for concerts and graduation ceremonies. The centre’s seminar rooms can accommodate both small and large crowds, and are equipped with everything you need for a productive meeting.

Burnaby 8 Rinks is a full service, multi-sport ice centre offering seven ice sheets and an indoor turf field. Six ice-sheets can be used for ice hockey, figure skating, sledge hockey and short-track speed skating. The seventh ice-sheet is dedicated to figure skating. Burnaby 8 Rinks is more than just an ice rink offering a full-service restaurant and lounge, a retail hockey and soccer store – it’s also the official home of the Skate Canada BC Centre of Excellence. Under the direction of Joanne McLeod, the Skate Canada BC Centre of Excellence is home to World and Olympic figure skating competitors and National and International Champions, including Emmanuel Sandhu. Burnaby 8 Rinks is also the official practice facility for the Vancouver Canucks NHL Hockey Team.

The Burnaby Lake Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art facility boasting three main lighted artificial grass fields (with two additional planned) and a modern clubhouse. Located on Kensington Avenue at the west end of Burnaby Lake Regional Nature Park, this complex offers a healthy array of activities. Enjoy the CG Brown Pool, sauna, whirlpool, weight room, tot pool and water slide. Along with offering ice skating and activity rooms, the complex also has archery fields, tennis courts, numerous sports fields and a sports pavilion. The fields are used for soccer, grass hockey, football, ultimate and field lacrosse, and are surrounded by a new field house, snack bar and meeting rooms.

The Burnaby Tennis Club offers 11 outdoor courts for public use at no charge, as well as six additional outdoor courts that are well lit in the summer season. Club members and the public can also use the facility’s six covered indoor courts from October to April. Western Canada’s largest bowling chain, REVS bills itself as being not “like your father’s bowling alley.” One of the most modern bowling centres in North America, REVS now offers the Laser Cosmic Bowling package – which incorporates a state-of-the-art light show with the latest in top 40 dance music. As the largest bowling centre west of Toronto, REVS offers dramatic architecture, the latest in technology and an interactive environment. The centre was also voted as the #1 bowling centre in 2002.

Swangard is home to the Vancouver Whitecaps’ men’s and ladies’ soccer teams, Simon Fraser University’s varsity football and soccer teams, and the venue for regional, provincial, national and international soccer, rugby, football and track and field events. The stadium is also used by school groups, amateurs, professional sporting groups, as well as a variety of non-sporting functions – such as various fundraising, civic and cultural events.
