2007-05-19 22:00

Dreamwalker Dance Company
May 16-19, 8:00 pm
Studio Theatre Shadbolt Centre for the Arts
Live music by: guitarist Peter Elkas

Originally from Vancouver, two of Canada's finest artists come home to present

Shostakovich-Piano Trio No. 2, solo work by Nann and A Certain Braided History, conceived and directed by Sarah Chase and developed, choreographed and performed by Chase and Nann.

"The same gentle demeanour infuses A Certain Braided History as Chase's other works. The choreography is deceptively simple. The anchor is the storytelling by the two women, and the most delicious moments occur when the abstract physicality suddenly becomes real and mirrors the words exactly, like a little epiphany. A Certain Braided History is deep, provocative and refreshing."

Wit, wisdom, womanhood, harmonies, hilarity and hips weave the musical tapestry known as AUGUST. Four award-winning independent recording artists/songwriters—Rae Armour, Beverley Elliott, Linda Kidder and Meg Tennant—may not be spring chickens, but things are still cookin’ in the hen house! They are equally at home on stage or on the back porch, combining their unique blend of folk, country, bluegrass and pop.

Company B

October 14, 8:00pm

James Cowan Theatre

Choreographer: Paul Taylor, songs: The Andrews Sisters, courtesy of: MCA Records

Company B, Paul Taylor's seminal piece of Americana, recalling the turbulent days of the 1940s, is impressive for the vibrancy and charisma of Taylor's versatile and stunning inventiveness, razor-sharp timing and sometimes frightening wit. As the nation lindys, jitterbugs and polkas to the Andrews Sisters music, a generation of Americans are drawn into the hell of the Second World War.

Amber Funk Barton, and featuring the young phenom Sasha Kozak

One Week, Two Weeks, Three Weeks…Oh God
Brock Jellison has joined forces with contemporary dance prodigy Amber Funk Barton to create Blue. Clementine (Amber) finds herself in a turbulent tornado of emotions following her very first one night stand. A new career, a strict religious upbringing and a stereotypical “single life”, leaves Clementine in a paradox of fear, embarrassment, and above all, regret, when she realizes she is two and a half weeks late.
