About Executive Chef Frank Lu
Chef Frank is a native of Taiwan; he immigrated to Canada in 1990. Frank met his wife Melody and they have proudly raised their two boys Marcus and Kurtis. In 2002 Frank became a proud Canadian and cherishes the great melting pot that is Canadian culture.
A culinary graduate of Dubrulle Culinary School, Frank has worked in some of Vancouver’s top culinary destinations including The Pear Tree, Hotel Georgia, the Metropolitan Hotel – Diva at the Met, and the Glowbal Restaurant Group. Chef Frank started as an apprentice and has moved on to elevated himself to the position as one of the Executive Chef of Trattoria Metrotown of the Glowbal Group.
Frank’s philosophy is commitment to local, sustainable cuisine and creating strong partnerships with regional producers. He believes strongly in passing knowledge onto the new generation of culinarians and enjoys the learning process as he mentors these young chefs. He strives to find the balance of being environmentally responsible, while utilizing seasonal local ingredients. Frank appreciates basic fresh ingredients with simple seasonings, cooked flavorfully and presented creatively yet approachable way. The Pacific coast and the endless bounty of fresh ingredients keep Chef Frank passionate about creating new and exciting dishes.
Chef Frank was trained and mentored by some of Canada’s Top Chefs –Sean Cousins, Robert Leung, Scott Baechler, Hamid Salimian, Quang Dang, Karan Gin as well as Bocuse d’Or Canadian candidate chefs James Olberg and Scott Jaeger.
Frank enjoys paring locally sourced ingredients with Italian influenced dishes. He cannot wait to share this passion with everyone at Small Plates on the Lake. Join us for some great food while supporting the Burnaby Hospital Foundation.
