Invention, Revival & More at the Burnaby Art Gallery

John Hartman, Burnaby Art GalleryThe Burnaby Art Gallery features two new and inspiring exhibits from three acclaimed artists: David Milne, John Hartman and BC Binning.

From June 2nd to July 19th, the BAG showcases Invention and Revival: The Colour Drypoints of David Milne and John Hartman.
David Milne is known for inventing and mastering the colour drypoint technique at the beginning of the 20th Century – while John Hartman revived and sought to explore this technique some 40 years later.  And though their lives only overlapped for three years, the combination of each of their work demonstrates adept skill and insight by exploring and documenting their subjects through this art form.
Invention and Revival: The Colour Drypoints of David Milne and John Hartman was curated by Rosemarie Tovell, with an essay by Anne-marie Ninacs. The exhibition has been organized and circulated by Carleton University Art Gallery.

Selections from the Permanent Collection: BC Binning
Beginning June 2nd until September 13th, the BAG proudly presents selections from the works of Bertrum Charles (BC) Binning.
BC Binning is known as the quintessential artist representative of British Columbia.  With a body of work that spans nearly four decades, the majority of his artwork features drawings, paintings and sculptures that reflect a nautical theme and a sense of time and place – attributes which have propelled him to local and national success throughout the 1940s. His draftsmanship demonstrates profound skill and knowledge of his subjects and the mastery of drawing.
The Burnaby Art Gallery’s Binning exhibition represents a small collection of the gallery’s holdings, many of which were donated to the gallery in 2008 by the estate of Jessie Binning.

Invention and Revival: The Colour Drypoints of David Milne and John Hartman and BC Binning are part of Drawn, metro Vancouver's inaugural art and artist drawing festival.
