BC Heritage at the Burnaby Village Museum

Take a stroll into the past at the Burnaby Village Museum and Carousel.

This unique and historic 10-acre attraction offers a combination of heritage and replica buildings – complete with period costumed townsfolk, old-fashioned shops, a working carousel and more.

Burnaby Village Museum Ice Cream ParlourEnjoy educational and interesting demonstrations at some of the village’s homes, businesses and shops – such as the blacksmith, the print shop, the garden at the farmhouse and the General Store.  Or stop by the old-fashioned ice cream parlour for a scoop (or two!) of delicious ice cream.

Be sure to also take in the elegance of the Interurban #1223 – and an exciting must for every visitor is a whirl on the historic 1912 CW Parker Carousel.

The Burnaby Village Museum also presents some special events throughout the summer:

Enjoy A Day at the Races on Saturday, August 15th with a range of “wheeled activities,” including:  old wheels, new wheels, electric wheels, races on three wheels, races on one wheel, slap-stick flicks with wheels, ride-on toys with wheels and much more!

Have some old-fashioned fun for the whole family at the museum’s Fall Fair on Monday, September 7th. With a variety of games, races, contests, entertainment, demonstrations and displays… the day promises to be fun for everyone.  And, of course, it’s never too early to plan for the baking, preserves or fruit/vegetable contest. Check out the on-line entry form at the Burnaby Village Museum Events Page.

Fun & Games Themed Weeks:

From now until September 7th, the museum presents special themed weeks focusing on sports, games and leisure activities.  Visit the museum to test your knowledge and skills, take part in some games… or just enjoy the demonstrations.

July 12 – 25: Disc Sports
From the discus of Ancient Greece to the disc golf of today, people have been throwing round things around for centuries. Now’s your chance! Don’t miss the Create-a-Frisbee craft and test yours out in the meadow. You’ll also have a chance to try out disc games such as Ultimate and Friskee – a Frisbee-like football game. And if you’re really adventurous, try Frisket – think Frisbee combined with cricket.

July 26 – August 8: Water Sports & Auto Courts
Experience a more nostalgic time, as the Canadiana Costume Society presents some eye-catching swimwear from the last century.  Then, jump into the period picnicking photo op for that unforgettable shot. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Colouring sheets and crafts will keep the kids happy, too.

August 9 - 22: Wheeled Sports
Experience a ride in one of the antique cars (Tuesdays and Wednesdays, weather permitting). Children can also take a ride in the vintage riding toys – such as the scooter, flivver and tadobile.  At Central Park Theatre, enjoy "The Lizzies of Mack Sennet" for speed, spills and thrills in Model Ts.  And don’t forget your camera, as the City of Burnaby’s new dragster-shaped Eco-Sculpture is the perfect backdrop for another photo op.  Plus, remember to test your knowledge of cars on the Jaunty Jalopies crossword puzzle.

August 23 – September 7: Schoolyard Games
Were you the school’s yo-yo ace? Or did you walk away with everyone else’s marbles? Were you the champion rope skipper at school?  If so, here’s your chance to re-live those memories… and make some new ones!  Take part in the museum’s marble derby, or make your own marble arch in the craft room. Or try the rope-skipping challenge.  Join in the yo-yo fun, and show us how you can “walk the dog.”  Then, try out the stilts, the jacks, and hopscotch – and test your flexibility with the hacky sack craze. And, at the end of the day, maybe you’ll be the one to take home the trophy in the rock, paper, scissors competition!
