Shadbolt Centre Celebrates 15 Years of Arts & Culture

Shane Koyczan, Shadbolt Centre for the ArtsIt all about celebration this year as the Shadbolt Centre kicks off its 15th season with Live at the ’Bolt on September 24th, featuring spoken word artist Shane Koyczan and his band The Short Story Long.

Koyczan dazzled the world with his words at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games; and he'll be at the Shadbolt Centre on Sept. 24th - meting out mirth and wisdom in his inimitable style. It’s an event that’s not to be missed.

From music and dance to award-winning theatre (and much more), the Shadbolt Centre has something for everyone.  Enjoy some of Metro Vancouver’s best arts and culture performances with an All Access Pass or a convenient A La Carte Package.  A new subscription option this year is Shadbolt’s Style Series - allowing you to focus on the discipline and performances that appeal to you the most.

To commemorate the Shadbolt’s 15th birthday, each Shadbolt show opening on a Wednesday will be only $15 - a 50% savings (offer does not include the Arts Club On Tour performances). Here are just a few other upcoming performances at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts:

October 3, Opera on a Sunday Afternoon - Enjoy the magical sounds of the Burnaby Lyric Opera as they present highlights from the upcoming season.

October 6-9, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM Mixed Repertoire -  A program of works in development, Mixed Repertoire is a rare opportunity to see Vancouver’s incendiary Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM in an intimate setting. This is dance in its raw state, work assembled from component parts of invention, passion, theatricality and emotion.  Each piece is accompanied by a newly composed score created by long-time Kidd Pivot collaborator Owen Belton.

October 13-16, Clark and I Somewhere in Connecticut -  In the summer of 2005, James Long salvaged seven photo albums and travel journals from an alley near his East Vancouver home. The collection, complete with detailed captions and letters, includes everything from birth notices to a full eulogy for the archivist’s Toy Pomeranian, Mandy. Two years later, a team of collaborators traveled in search of the origins of these books, and ran into some serious questions surrounding the legality and morality of working with found materials.

October 18, Black Box Film Series
- This popular series showcases the best in independent Canadian and international films. Check out Shadbolt Centre for information on upcoming films not yet released on DVD.  In partnership with Film Circuit and the Toronto International Film Festival Group.
