Culture Days Comes to Burnaby
Discover the world of artists, historians, architects, curators and designers during the Culture Days celebration… and inspire the creator in you! For three days this month - Sept. 24th to 26th - arts and culture will be celebrated across Canada, from coast to coast to coast, during the Culture Days event.
This one momentous weekend across the country presents thousands of free cultural opportunities to do, make, paint, sculpt, act, sing, dance, write and learn.
As part of this Canada-wide interactive celebration, Burnaby will host a number of arts and cultural events, including:
"A Book Arts Mosaic" handmade book art exhibition at the Deer Lake Gallery, Sept. 18th to Oct. 3rd - The Burnaby Arts Council (BAC) is excited to present the first exhibit of "A Book Arts Mosaic" in the Lower Mainland as a part of its free Culture Days activities. Curated by Canadian book artist Lise Melhorn-Boe, this exhibition features 26 works by 33 Canadian book artists from across Canada. A book sale and meet the authors event will also be featured as part of this exhibition, offering an opportunity to meet authors such as award-winning, best-selling young adult writer Linda De Meulemeester and poet Bernice Lever.
Book launch and reading by David Glenn on Saturday, Sept. 25th at 1:00pm at the Deer Lake Gallery - The BAC presents a book reading and launch of author David Glenn’s latest historical thrillers: The Queen's Sword and The Queen's Jewels. The Queens Sword is a gripping tale set in December 1599. A grimy, plague-ridden London is beginning its painful emergence into a great city; but there is treachery afoot as yet another plot is developing to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I. Don’t miss this event to hear the author reveal more about this beautifully interwoven and hard-to-put-down, fast-paced, gripping story.
Chap-book making workshop, Sunday, Sept. 26th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Deer Lake Gallery - Join artist Sally Reesman as she hosts this creative, hands-on chap-book making workshop. (A chap book is an informal self-published book that can be used for your own stories, poetry or even favourite recipes.) While admission is free, registration is required for this workshop. To register, phone 604-298-7322 (space is limited).
During this year’s Culture Days celebration, Burnaby will host a total of seven arts and culture events. For more information on these and other activities, events and workshops, visit Culture Days or contact Claire Halpern at 604-298-7322.
