Burnaby Lyric Opera
February 23, 28 & March 1, 8:00pm
Februray 25, 27, 2:00pm
By Johann Strauss Jr.
Stage directed by Matthew Bissett, music directed by David Boothroyd

Gabriel von Eisenstein plays a practical joke on Dr. Falke. A year later, Eisenstein is saying a tearful farewell to his wife as he prepares to go to jail for 14 days for insulting a public official. Falke sees this as a perfect “recipe for revenge”.  And revenge is a glass best served filled with the finest Champagne! Die Fledermaus is a bubbly confection of score-settling, infidelity and mistaken identities, starting at the wildest Masked Ball in 1870’s Vienna and ending the next morning in the chaos of a county jail. A festival of sparkling tunes bound together by a plot and a cast of characters that makes a virtue of absurdity.

A Monologue About Sex
Winner of the “Just For Laughs” Comedy Award, TJ’s newest monologue is about sex. There’s very little physical action in the show. None, in fact. But there is an elaborate web of 16,000 some words, woven into the space over the stage by a very opinionated, fast talking guy. Sort of sit-down, stand-up comedy with stories examining gender roles, stereotypes, prejudices in our culture and in our language daring to possibly answer the question of what women really want. And men too.

Love and a Zamboni
“What are the odds of starting something worthwhile at a hockey rink?” Here comes the team to root for! Donna and Teddy, both single parents, meet at the rink while watching their sons play minor league hockey. Between periods, during penalties, and amid the whir and thrum of a Zamboni, an unexpected romance soon blooms in the bleachers. Cheer on the pair as they lick old wounds and take tentative, humourous steps back into the dating game, all against the backdrop of our national obsession.
