The 26th Annual Symphony in the Park at Deer Lake Park

With the summer solstice signifying the official start of the season, why not seize the moment (and good weather) by adding a few outdoor events to your upcoming calendar?

Since 1988, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has held a free evening concert held at Deer Lake Park and delighting music fans in the Lower Mainland. The 26th annual Symphony in the Park will be on Sunday July 13th. The family-friendly event has a picturesque backdrop – just imagine an evening with the VSO as the sun sinks into Deer Lake. The repertoire for the evening features the works of seven composers, as conducted by Gordon Gerrard. Bringing a fresh perspective to the podium, Gerrard has established himself among the new generation of Canadian musicians with his work in opera, which has seen him engaging in projects in Calgary, Montreal, and Halifax – just to name a few cities. Through the direction of Gerrard, the evening with VSO at Deer Lake Park is expected to bring a modern take on the classics.

Lucy Wang

Violinist Lucy Wang will be featured in a piece by Pvotr Ilvich Tchaikovsky, ‘Violin Concerto in D Major: I. Allegro moderato’. Despite her young age of seventeen, Wang has been working on her craft since the tender age of three and has received many accolades for her musical accomplishments. Most recently in May, Wang was the grand prize winner of the VSO School Concerto Competition, in which she was awarded the opportunity to play with the VSO at the Orpheum Theatre in 2015. So on Sunday July 13th, bring a friend, your significant other and/or family. Stop by the Burnaby Heights area before the show to pick up treats for a picnic and bring a blanket. Sit back and enjoy a beautiful night of music by the Vancouver Symphony orchestra. Although the concert is free, we have a contest where you could win a pair of reserved seats as well as a two night stay at Accent Inns Burnaby, a $100 gift card to Hart House Restaurant, a $50 gift card to Metropolis at Metrotown a $100 Visa gift card for travel expenses.
